Aachen, 20 March 2020 – The electric car manufacturer e.GO Mobile AG will temporarily suspend production of its e.GO Life electric car at the e.GO factory in Rothe Erde, Aachen. The suspension begins on 23 March 2020 and is initially planned to last four weeks. This is part of the company’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The health of our employees and their families is our top priority. Even though this will hit us very hard at this stage, we have decided to suspend production from Monday, and to implement short-time working arrangements in these areas,” says Professor Günther Schuh, CEO of e.GO Mobile AG.

In taking this measure, e.GO Mobile is also pre-empting the production bottlenecks in the supply chain which are expected to occur in the coming weeks due to production downtimes at major car manufacturers.

In addition, e.GO Mobile has already taken other company-wide measures to protect its workforce. All employees may work from home wherever practical. This also reduces physical proximity in offices. Virtual meetings and conferences are used to avoid physical contact. All business travels have also been cancelled for the time being. Anyone working on site is required to follow strict hygiene practices.

Whether production is resumed after the planned four-week period will depend on future developments; Management is re-evaluating the situation on a daily basis taking into account the most up-to-date information available.

“We have already overcome many of the problems a capital-intensive start-up can face. But we are still in the middle of ramping-up. These measures will hit us at a sensitive stage. We will probably need support from the federal or state government to enable us to survive this corona crisis,” adds Schuh, commenting on the outlook.
